Grief Care

Grief Care is a weekly seminar and support group which meets in the church. Very importantly, This is led by lay people from MRBC modeling the concept described in
2 Corinthians 1:3-6.

The God of All Comfort

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.

Each weekly Grief Care meeting consists of two distinct elements:

Seminar

The instructional material is provided in the form of 13 videotapes, averaging 35 minutes in length. These tapes, produced in an interesting television magazine format, cover topics important to people going through a time of grieving.

Support Group

Much healing occurs when people have the opportunity to talk about their grief experiences and hear others who are dealing with similar problems. The weekly support group session is designed to follow viewing of that week's video, allowing an opportunity for discussion of the content of the tape and a time of personal sharing for group members.

The support group discussion time, led by lay facilitators, will allow people to share their feelings and experiences. They come to understand that “they are not alone,” that there are others who are going through similar experiences. The support group becomes a “family,” with members ministering to each other.

A powerful, effective combination

You'll take part in an atmosphere of care and concern with solid, reliable teaching. You can make a difference in the lives of people grieving the loss of someone close.

Ongoing ministry format
Grief Care is designed as a weekly format to run in a continuous cycle throughout the year. This ensures that you'll always have a support mechanism in place to minister to people who are grieving the loss of someone close to them.

Combines seminar and support group strategies
Teaching and instruction is essential to help people grieve, but lacks the "heart" and emotional care a support group can provide. Conversely, a support group without instruction can quickly deteriorate without guided discussion. By combining instruction and support group, Grief Care provides the balance that creates effective, meaningful ministry.

Grief Care is Christ-centered
True healing from a hurt as deep as the death of a loved one must be built on a relationship with Jesus Christ. This message is reflected throughout the Griefshare videos and print resources.

Grief Care is built on biblical concepts
The Bible is presented as the practical guide to grief recovery in the Grief Care video series and workbook. Group participants learn that scripture provides essential guidance on topics such as grieving, loss, emotions, death and eternal life.

At Merriman Road Baptist Church, we are committed to helping you navigate through the crisis' of life. We ernestly desire to laugh with you, cry with you, and help you in any Way that we can.
