This week we continue in the Sermon on The Mount with Jesus’ words about divorce. This is the third illustration of how those who think that they are righteous are in-truth unrighteous in their hearts. Jesus is focusing our broken relationships that come from anger, bitterness, unwillingness to forgive, lust and adultery. Divorce and broken promise follow. Each of these destroy relationships. The kingdom of heaven values loving and growing relationship and so should we.

This week, Jesus continues to reveal to us one of the most important teaching of the Bible, the doctrine of sin. We do not like to talk about this, think about this, and definitely hear about this doctrine. Here in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes it clear that all of us have sinned in the worst ways. We continue our series of messages from the Sermon on the Mount. We will look at the first 3 illustrations that Jesus gives us to his statement in Matthew 5:20 that, "unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Scribes and Pharisees you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.” That was a radical statement that would shock all who heard it. This week we will begin a new sermon series titled, “God With Us.” In Colossians 1 we are introduced to Jesus as the complete representation of God, yet he came to us in our flesh. We tend to think of Jesus as far away in time and space. The message of Christmas is truly Immanuel, God with Us in our flesh. This means He knows us, is near us, and He is with us in power!
