We begin the New Year with a series of messages from the book of Joshua, titled “Vision & Victory." There is much to learn from those who walked in faith and obedience. This week we have crossed over into a new year and like Joshua we must learn to be strong and courageous. We must regain a vision of the living God at work in our world and then be willing to cross over and join Him in victory.

If you have been paying attention to the news in the past week there has been quite a stir regarding our nation recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Wise men came to Jerusalem 2000 years ago, and they also created a stir. Jerusalem is at the center of God’s redemptive plan. What is happening today our news is a reminder to get ready for the coming King. Jesus was born a King. We should worship Him!

It is appropriate for us to consider how Thanksgiving fits into our family life. Not the holiday but the virtue of gratitude. To consider the subject biblically we will look to I Thessalonians and Proverbs to discover that joy and happiness can flow into our lives as we learn to release expressions of thanksgiving in our homes.

This weeks message focus is on the instruction from Scripture that we are to teach our children and grandchildren the things of God. We will also look at the example of the dysfunctional home of Eli. There are many examples of sin and rebellion in the homes of people of faith in the Bible. They are included to warn us as parents that we cannot be lazy when it comes to our responsibilities of intentional instruction and faithful examples that we are to provide. Our text for the morning begins with words that set the tone: diligently watch yourself so that you don’t forget…” Let us commit ourselves to the Lord in this great responsibility.

As we continue in our series of messages on “Family Life,” this week we will look at I Corinthians 13 to talk about the essential ingredient of love. The passage begins by pointing out that faith, family and even life are meaningless with out love. Indeed many families are in danger because we do not fully understand what love is. In this passage the love we need in our home is defined. Let's look at this definition to evaluate the quality of the love we bring to our family.
