Following Jesus is more than just Bible Study. Perhaps the biggest objection that unbelievers have in following Jesus is the hypocrisy of "Christians". But those believers who are truly wise have a faith that impacts how they live with other people. This Sunday's message from James 3:13-18 will expose the hellish "wisdom" that we may be tempted to live by and exhort us to a heavenly wisdom that reveals the goodness of our Lord Jesus.

The word of God from James chapter 3 challenges us to consider a clear test or evidence of our faith. The evidence is heard in what we say. The words we use can be a powerful gift for good or a dangerous tool for destruction. Most of all our words reveal what is in our hearts. The battle to tame our tongue is one that every Christian must win if they are going to be used of God. Faith that works is working hard and to win this battle.

As we continue to study a “Faith that Works,” from the book of James, the church is called to repentance as we consider how we treat people in and out of our fellowship. James points out that we carry the name of the King therefore we are to live and display the Royal Law which is to Love our Neighbor as our selves. I say he is calling us to repentance because as we evaluate our faith by this standard we cannot help but see the reality of sin in our hearts.

This week we will the last part of the first chapter of James. This passage presents practical instruction on Faith that Works. James challenges each of us to let the Word of God change our lives. He points to the fact that if we live out what we hear from God's word in faith then it will be heard in what we say and seen in what we do. Here the scripture gives us tools to test whether or not our faith is working.

This week we begin a new series of messages that will take us through the book of James. Many have called James the “proverbs” of the New Testament. The wisdom it calls us to is the testing of our faith. There are many counterfeits in the world. The most dangerous counterfeits are false faiths religions and philosophies that deceive people into believing that they are in God’s favor. But, in reality the ideas that they have been following have led them away from Jesus and a faith that works. This weeks message will focus on the first chapter where we are called to understand that the testing of our faith actually purifies our faith and can prove to us whether it is genuine or counterfeit.

Our God is a God of redemption who is working to free the enslaved. God has chosen to work through human agency. Because this is true, God is continually calling His people from saving faith to a faith that yields everything to Him.
