In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” At Merriman Road Baptist Church we take that commandment very seriously. We provide a welcoming, loving atmosphere and many different programs to encourage children to do just that: to come to Jesus. Children and their families are always welcome at Merriman Road Baptist Church. Please read on to see what we have to offer children in grades 1-6.
Our Mission Statement
The Children’s Ministries of Merriman Road Baptist Church exist for the purposes of teaching Biblical values, sharing God’s love and showing children how they can have a personal faith in Jesus Christ and live and grow as one of His disciples.
Our Current Situation:
Week of May 13:
Sunday morning in Bible Study and Children's Church yesterday morning we took a look at the books of 1 and 2 John to learn about love--accepting God's love and His forgiveness through accepting Jesus as our Savior and Lord, loving each other in words and action and showing our love for the Lord by obeying His commands. Next week we will look at the books of 3 John and Jude, as we finish up the year plus long journey we've been enjoying.
Throughout the month of May, R.A.s and G.A.s will learn about missionaries who serve in Las Vegas and the work being done there.
In P.R.O.C.L.A.I.M. Music Ministry: This week we will continue earning how to use science to teach Bible lessons.
Children's Department Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, May 23: Last day of Family Night until September. Each Wednesday from May 30 through September 5 will be 7 o’clock only.
Wednesday May 30 and Wednesday, June 6 at 7pm: R.A.s and G.A.s will meet.
Sunday, June 3, 6pm: R.A./G.A. Award Ceremony.
Sunday, June 3: Last day of our year. This will be the last Sunday the children will be in their current grades, and the last Sunday the current 6th graders will be in the Children’s Department. On Sunday, June 10 everyone will move up one grade and the current 6th graders will be in the youth group.
Sunday, June 10: Promotion Day—We will begin our “new year” and all the kids will move up one grade.
Sunday, June 10, 1pm: Children’s Department Staff Appreciation Lunch. All children’s department volunteer staff are invited to join us for a banquet in your honor.
Wednesdays at 7 from June 13-September 5: We will do a summer only program called “Victory.” Kids can come for music, games, exciting lessons from God’s Word, prizes and more. We will not meet on July 4 in honor of Independence Day or the week of VBS (July 25), since we will be participating in VBS.
Friday, June 15, 6-9pm: Ice cream social at Joe and Jessica’s house. All kids (including those who just moved up to the youth), their families and their teachers are invited to come over for a good ol’ fashioned ice cream social. This is open house style, so come when you can and stay as long as you’re able.
Saturday, June 30-GCYAA party, 10:30-3:30: Come lend a hand to this amazing community outreach. All Garden City Youth Athletic Association T-Ball and baseball teams will come for a pizza party and to get their trophies. This is an amazing opportunity for our church to show love to a lot of people in our community. Please come out and lend a hand.
Monday, July 9- Friday, July 13: G.A. Camp-G.A. Camp for girls who have completed 3rd grade and up. Cost is $199. If your daughter would like to go, there are fundraising opportunities. Please talk to me if you would like your daughter to go to camp AND if you would like her to do fundraising.
Monday, July 23- Friday, July 27: Vacation Bible School, join us each evening for Game On! This year’s VBS! Crafts, snacks, recreation and, of course, lots of great truths from the Bible about the great Gospel!
Friday, August 3, 6:30-8:30: VBS Reunion Wheel Party. Join us and all your VBS friends for a reunion right in the church parking lot. Bring your bikes, skates, scooters or any other “wheel” activities you have and we will supply the ice cream to cool you off!
Monday, August 6 – Friday, August 10: R.A. Camp: Cost is around $50. Boys enjoy learning camp skills, swimming, hiking, games and lessons from God’s Word. See your R.A. leaders for more information.
Saturday, September 8: Community Free Fair: Ponies, games, facepainting, mini golf, food and lots more! Come on out and have a little fun AND serve by finding somewhere to help out for a little while!

Our Children’s Programs
Not your traditional Sunday School. It’s fun! Using activities, crafts, music and more, kids explore the Bible from A-Z and everything in between! Children meet in small groups arranged according to grade. Bible Study is at 9:30 Sunday mornings.
Love sports? Love being active? TeamKID is just for you! TeamKID keeps you on your toes; teaching kids the Bible while doing fast-paced, high-energy activities. TeamKID meets September through May Sunday 4:45-7 pm.
Silly skits? Music just for kids? Fun Bible lessons? Games? Where can you find all that at church? In Children’s Church of course! Children’s Church is a worship service just for kids! We worship God and learn about His Word. Children’s Church meets at 11am Sunday mornings.
Royal Ambassadors (boys only) & Girls in Action (girls only)
You care about people and you love helping out. You also love to learn about different countries and cultures. If this sounds like you, check out our mission groups: Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action. In class, kids learn about missionaries and different places all over the world. Out of class, they learn to be missionaries by doing all kinds of mission projects. Both groups are split by grade level and meet on Wednesday nights from 6 to 6:55.
P.R.O.C.L.A.I.M. Music Ministries
In Children’s Choir you can learn fun music, do puppets, play instruments, sing, do choreography and even act! Our Children’s Choir does two exciting presentations each year and has fun practicing for them every Wednesday night from 7 to 8 pm.
Along with our classes, we have lots of fun activities scheduled each year. Everything from slumber parties, camps and carnivals to serving in various service projects throughout the community. There is truly something for every kid at Merriman Road Baptist Church!
